Today's temps hit 8 degrees but it felt more like -20C with the crazy gusty wind. I did my long ride and only managed to complete 4.5 hours before I said uncle and came home. I'll admit that I may have under dressed for the weather but I would have been fine if it wasn't for the evil gale-force wind.
I was so cold. After about an hour in I realized I could no longer feel my left elbow. I thought that was an odd body part to freeze and kept checking to make sure it was still there. My hands had lost their dexterity for most of the ride so I used my teeth to do important tasks like opening my food and shifting gears.
About half way through my ride I joined up with Ray, Tanya, Andrew and Mel and some of their friends at the aviation museum. Their plan was to do about 80km heading east. My plan was to stick with them but it quickly changed when the slower pace, accommodating some of the riders I didn't know, almost made me hypothermic. I had to go back on my own after only 30 minutes with them.
When I finally got in the door, it took some tea, soup and a hot shower before I was back to normal.
Oh yeah, and how'd the carb experiment go? Pretty darn good. My legs and energy level felt fantastic today. I'll definitely be continuing to eat this way. Go banana!
